F.A.Q

Arrival and After Arrival

Is there a program fee? If not, how is my salary paid? How are you able to fund this program?

There is no program fee for teaching with MyGlobe. Teaching in China is a unique experience, but it is also a job. Most agencies or head hunting companies in China try to get you on a contract, whereas they handle your salary and take a cut of your earnings; MyGlobe DOES NOT do this. The school where you work provides your salary, paid direct deposit into your account. MyGlobe receives a one-time fee from the school. This fee is in no way related to your offer from the school. Because we do not use the methods other agencies use, our recruits typically make a higher salary than their coworkers.

If I decide to teach with MyGlobe HR, What will happen when I arrive in China? How will you assist me and help me to get ready to teach?

Because you are being hired by a school and not MyGlobe; the school usually handles the airport pick up, the free hotel stay, and the training. MyGlobe stays in contact with you and the school throughout this process to make sure everything is done smoothly. If any problems arise, MyGlobe will be there for you. We will give advise and make sure someone is there to meet you. We have a large network of friendly staff and teachers throughout the country ready to help.

Contracts

What is the contract like? Do I have to sign a contract before I come to China?

Every contract is a little different. NEVER sign a contract with an agency nor head hunting company. Only sign directly with a school. The referring agency’s company name should not appear anywhere on your contract. Once you start interviewing with places you will receive many offers; most offers will be straight forward and legit, but there are some schools that will offer you one thing and when you arrive they may try to change their offer. MyGlobe screens every school we work with and ensures that our offering schools do not adjust their offers. Contracts can be signed before or after you arrive in China, it is up to you.

General

What is My Globe HR?

MyGlobe HR is a well-established international education company with its headquarters in China’s capital city–Beijing, China. As a professional service specializing in hiring, training, and supervising English teachers in all of China, we partner highly qualified language teachers from English-speaking countries with Chinese schools that have various learning programs (ESL, IB, American, British, etc.). But MyGlobe is more than just a hiring firm. From the moment you speak to an advisor, you will see the difference from other agencies in China. We believe in truth and integrity. We will be a helping hand in your experience. We provide truthful non-bias information about job hunting, visas, laws, housing, travel arrangements. MyGlobe helps you get in contact with other teachers from around the world. It’s also our job to keep in touch with you throughout your stay in China. Our company provides continuing support to both you whether you take a job through us or not.

Are there any cost for the recruitment process?

Our service is 100% free! We also do not deduct anything from your salary, in fact, we do not even touch your salary. You are hired and paid directly from your school. BE CAREFUL of agencies that want you to sign a contract through them. 99% of agencies in China want to hire you on their contract and steal from your salary. This is illegal, dirty, and the reason MyGlobe HR was started by foreigners.

Housing

What is housing like? How do I get an apartment?

At MyGlobe, we do not directly provide housing with the job, and we usually advise against taking the housing option with a school. MyGlobe does offer temporary housing in a few cities, until the recruit can get on their feet. MyGlobe also advises the recruits on the best methods to go about securing their own apartment. Most apartments are clean, fully-furnished, and modern, with Western-style amenities, including a bedroom, living space, and kitchen. There are plenty of foreigners in every city looking for roommates or are trying to turn over their current lease. MyGlobe advises to use our network of people or use your employer’s assistance to secure your living arrangements rather than trying to deal with a Chinese housing agency.

Teaching

When is my salary paid?

Salaries for each month are usually paid on the 15th of the following month. For example, if we were to sign a contract extending from February to May, you would receive February’s salary on March 15th, March’s salary on April 15th, April’s salary on May 15th, and May’s salary on May 30th, together with your airfare bonus. Please remember that you will need to pay your basic living expenses until you receive your first pay-check. You will arrive in China about a week or so before you start work. Either the school or we will help you open a Chinese bank account so that you can receive your salary by direct deposit.

What about Holidays? Will I have time to travel while I am in China?

Yes. Holidays vary from one day off to a full week or more. As a teacher in China you will get paid days off on all Chinese holidays and at some schools you will receive additional days for major western holidays. Holidays include Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), and National Day. You will have plenty of time to travel during your stay in China. Teachers get plenty of days off and receive very good salaries in relation to the cost of living in Asia; this makes China a very convenient and affordable launching pad to travel all over the world.

What is a teaching supervisor/teaching assistant? How will she assist me while I am in Beijing?

As a part of working for a school in China, you will be provided with various assistants who will help you in your classrooms, finding apartments, learning to pay your bills, and other various difficulties. Most schools have been helping there foreign teachers for many years and are very experienced in making your transition as smooth as possible. My Globe also provides continuous support throughout your time in China. Our agents are happy to advise you and answer all of your questions about anything and everything.

What is the teaching time-table like? What will my daily schedule be?

Daily schedules vary by school. In the majority of our schools, each class lasts around 30 minutes and have multiple classes throughout the day. We will train you in how to conduct brief, effective, daily English lessons that teach pronunciation, vocabulary, and basic sentence structure. International schools differ and require foreign teachers to remain in the same class for a full half-day or a full day. Teachers have between a 1 1/2 and 3 hour lunch break in the middle of the day, depending on the school. This allows the children to take a nap (and you, if you like!) and eat lunch, while you eat lunch independently. You can use this time however you choose- for planning, shopping, or just reading a book. Different Partner Schools have different Class Structures. Some of our schools have English Teachers assigned to one class for the entire day. In this kind of class structure, the English teacher will teach English to the class during allotted English learning times and during other times will talk and play with the kids.

What are classes like?

Most jobs available to new teachers will fall into 3 categories: Universities, kindergarten and training schools. Each job is a little different and every job varies on the city and the school that you decide on. Most schools offer assistant teachers to help you with translation and discipline in the classroom. Class sizes can vary from one on one students to class sizes of 30. If you have no experience in teaching don’t worry, a lot of jobs offer training before you ever step in a classroom. For more detailed information of class types CLICK HERE.

Where will I teach? Tell me about the kindergarten or partner school where I will be teaching?

Our schools are located throughout China. MyGlobe advises you to start out in a Tier 1 (Beijing, Shanghai) or Tier 2 (Qingdao, Chengdu) city, but we also have jobs in Tier 3 (Inner Mongolia) cities. The majority of our teachers will be placed in kindergartens and early childhood education, but we also have a partnerships with Adult language centers, universities, primary, and secondary schools. Please let us know if you have a strong preference for older students, and we will try our best to accommodate this preference.

Visa

What type of visa do I need to teach in China?

At the moment, a Z visa is needed to teach legally in China. Although a Z visa is required to teach legally, plenty of teachers teach on a tourist visa, with the added risk of being caught for teaching illegally. The process of getting a work visa has become more complicated recently. For detailed information you may refer to our visa section, or schedule a time to speak with an advisor. Our advisors will give you honest and non-bias information about any questions or concerns you may have.
